Marsa Alam

Once a small fishing village, Marsa Alam is rapidly increasing in popularity. 130 km south of Quseir, Marsa Alam is popular among divers and fishing enthusiasts. With the creation of the new airport, Marsa Alam has the potential to become the new hot spot among divers.

Relatively untouched, the coral reefs around Marsa Alam are spectacular for snorkeling or diving. The islands off Marsa Alam, part of the Gebel Elba Protectorate, are one of the highlights of the area. There are numerous reputable diving centers for you to choose from.

The mountains surrounding Marsa Alam are definitely worth exploring. If you are interested in a day trip, the Emerald Mines are recommended.

Although still growing in popularity and population, Marsa Alam is home to a few good hotels with all the amenities. However, there are many environmentally friendly camps that offer divers low cost and comfortable accommodation right on the beach.
